Bruno Mars Soars in Halftime Show Over-Seasoned by Chili Pepper

Bruno Mars was a refreshing change from the geriatric acts that usually perform during the Super Bowl halftime show (Beyonce excluded). But the show was a little over-seasoned with chili pepper.

Mars opened the show on the drums, banging out an impressive solo. Only it went on just a little too long.

Make no mistake, Mars is super talented and put on a great show. It’s just that viewers have been conditioned to massive spectacles a la Beyonce last year and Madonna before that.

The producers tried to make up for it with a non-stop light show that, in the end, became distracting.

Although Mars is only 28, his music, a combination of Funkadelic soul and old-school ’80s style R&B, had cross-generational appeal. So no one probably felt left out.

So why bring in the Red Hot Chili Peppers?

It seemed like Mars was just hitting his stride when the peppers bounded onto the stage about half-way through the program.

Seems like the NFL just couldn’t stand to put all of its eggs into Mar’s basket, so it brought in an over-40 rock group.

More Bruno, less chili pepper would have helped the show.
