Kris Jenner’s decision to split from husband Bruce Jenner has money written all over it. After working for years behind the scenes for daughters Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian, she wants to be a player in her own right.

It was clear that Bruce had become excess baggage after the couple began living apart more than a year ago.

Kris, however, was too savvy to just toss him to the curb right away, especially after what happened when Kim ditched her husband of 72 days, Kris Humphries. She waited for a decent interval to make her move.

When she landed her own talk show, it was also clear that she was carving out a niche for herself with hopes of becoming a brand in her own right. It was no longer enough to live in the shadows of her daughters and have her ego and income tied to them.

Besides, it only seems a matter of time before “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” their flagship family reality show, finally comes to an end. When that happens, Kris hopes to have her talk show established and a reality show focusing on her on the air.

It would be pretty hard to come up with material for a show week-after-week with Bruce hanging around. But if Kris were single, the possibilities would be endless. Think a cross between the “Golden Girls” and “Real Housewives of Orange County.”

As an attractive 50-something divorcee, Kris could play to her aging baby-boomer demographic, still huge and influential in market terms, yet with little or no programming directed at them.

Imagine Kris trolling for dates, and maybe a new husband, confronting all of the hopes, joys and drama of mid-lifers who suddenly find themselves single, wealthy and attractive. Think of the adventures, the romances! She was rumored to be sleeping around, anyway, so why not go legit?

Kris could also keep her finger in the 18-to-34 market by including her hot teenage daughters, Kyle Jenner and Kendall Jenner in the show. Finally, kids that share her last name.

Kris would also be one of the girls at last, on par with Kim, Khloe and Kourtney, not someone skulking in the shadows while they get all the attention.

And let’s face it, Bruce never really fit the picture, anyway. He was a reluctant actor on their reality shows and was way off message with his ghastly plastic surgery.

Sure, tossing him aside is brutal, Machiavellian and cruel, but we’re talking the Kardashians here. Would you expect it to be any other way? And, don’t worry, it can all be handled in the editing.
