Prince William talks about joys and terrors of being a father.
The royal couple has been generous in making the baby available to the public. But William says any parent would be.
“I think I was on such a high anyway and so was Catherine about George, that really we were happy to show him off to anyone who wanted to see him,” he tells CNN in a new interview, his first since the birth last month.
He won high marks when he appeared with the baby in a car seat and popped him into the car so handily. He admits, though, that he was terrified the first time he was seen in public with tiny George and did quite a bit of practicing.
“Believe me, it wasn’t my first time, and I know there has been speculation about that. I had to practice, I really did. I was terrified he was going to fall off or it wasn’t going to close properly.”
Prince William also won plaudits for the simple task of driving off in the car with wife and baby. “I think driving your son and wife off from the hospital is important to me,” he said. It was a symbol of the “modern monarchy.” But William is happy to be independent.
As for George, he’s already showing signs of being “a little bit of a rascal.”
George is third in line to the throne, behind his grandfather Prince Charles and his father. Prince Harry is now fourth in line.
“He either reminds me of my brother or me when I was younger, I’m not sure, but he’s doing very well at the moment,” William says.
