Henry Cavill tells Jay Leno the downside of wearing his Superman suit. Try going to the bathroom.

Henry Cavill’s Superman suit has its drawbacks, and the “Man of Steel” actor revealed one of the biggest last night to Jay Leno on the Tonight Show. What happens when you have to go to the bathroom?

The suit has been the object of much scrutiny during production of the film because of its departures from Superman’s traditional suit.

Gone are the red underpants and gold belt that have been staples of the suit since Superman was first introduced in comic books in the 1930s. Instead the man of steel looks darker. The tights have also given way to a more tech-looking fish-scale suit.

“You know, I’ve seen every Superman film, had all the comics as a kid. A little different, the suit looks a little different,” said Jay setting up the line of questioning.

The audience went wild when a shot of Cavill in the suit was flashed on TV monitors. “They sort of ditched the red underpants thing; that wasn’t working,” said Jay. “It took Superman a while to realize, ‘Hey, on earth they wear them on the inside.”

Cavill revealed that it took 15 minutes and help from two crew members to squeeze into the suit, which has no zippers or fasteners.

Then, Jay popped the big question. “So how do you go to the bathroom? Oh, hey, I got to take a leak, stop.”

It’s possible to hit the head while filming, but not easy, he explained. Plus, he needed about 25 minutes for a bathroom break. Check out the video below and be sure to follow TheImproper on Twitter for the latest “Man of Steel” updates.
