Rapper Kanye West’s relationship with Kim Kardashian’s seems like a match made in marketing heaven. Kim is damaged goods after her devastating breakup with Kris Humphries so dating West restores some credibility. But what’s he getting out of it?

Plenty as it turns out. West may have more up his sleeve than love. In his new song, called “Mercy,” he raps the line: “Don’t do no press but I get the most press, kid.”

In another song, “Theraflu,” released earlier this week, he makes specific mention of his love for Kim.

Of course, West, 34, goes against everything that Kim says she is looking for in a man. He’s hardly been known for maintaining steady relationships. He’s just too wild and independent to settle down and has a reputation as a hoser.

And, he seems to have no qualms about using Kim like a wet dishrag to hype himself and his new album. He is already looking around for a Kim Kardashian look-a-like for his next video, according to The New York Post.

The timing of West’s music seemed so carefully orchestrated, even West’s label rep, Gabe Tesoriero, told The Post he knew “nothing about a new song.”

Kardashian claimed in the the May issue of Cosmopolitan’s UK edition that she was single. “I’m not even close to dating again!” she told the magazine. “I’m just going to work on me for a bit.” Of course, the interview was likely conducted early this year when it seemed clear that Kim was radioactive in the dating pool.

On the Today show this morning (Apr. 6) Kim seemed to play down the relationship. “I completely respect and understand that you have to ask these questions, but as I’ve said before, Kanye and I have been friends for years,” she said.

“You know, you never know what the future holds or where my life will take me. So … I like the song!”

Kim was spotted taking a “walk of shame” from West’s apartment in the same clothes she wore the night before. And photos today (Apr. 6) show what looks like a high-school hickey on her neck.
