In the wake of her sordid affair, outtakes from the session have gone viral. They are noteworthy because they portray an actress who was still largely unknown yet full of possibilities, until “Twilight” radically changed her life.

Stewart, 22, grew up in a movie family. Father, John Stewart, is a stage manager and television producer, while her Australian mother, Jules Mann-Stewart, waS a script supervisor, who branched into writing and directing films. Kristen started acting when she was seven, and left school in the seventh grade to pursue it full-time.
Her breakout role as a child actress came in 2002 in “Panic Room” a thriller directed by David Fincher. It starred Jody Foster, Forest Whitaker, Jared Leto and Dwight Yoakam.

She’d landed her first starring role at 14, almost two years earlier in the children’s action-comedy “Catch That Kid,” with Max Thieriot and Corbin Bleu. She also earned some attention for her role in Lifetime/Showtime film “Speak.”
Stewart played high school freshman who stops talking after being raped. She co-starred in “Speak” with actor Michael Angarano. They would begin a four-year relationship in 2006 that only ended after she met another semi-obscure actor, Robert Pattinson.
She was 16 when she sat down for an interview with Nylon in 2006, well before “Twilight.” The vampire film start production more than a year later. At the time, she was a known but still semi-obscure actress trying to make it in Hollywood. She starred in a series of indie films before drawing attention again in Sean Penn’s 2007 movie “Into the Wild.”
Stewart played Tracy, a teenage singer living in an RV camp who falls for young adventurer Christopher McCandless played by Emile Hirsch. The reviews of her acting were mixed, but among those who admired her work was another obscure actor Robert Pattinson.

Pattinson would later say he only auditioned for the role of Edward Cullen because he was enamored with Kristen and learned that she had been signed to play Bella Swan.
In a 2009 Nylon interview, she was still very much attached to Angarano. “He’s older than me—he’s 20 now—but when you’re 13 and he’s turning 16, it was always sort of an out-of-reach thing.
“Then you get a little older, and you realize, ‘Oh, What the fuck am I thinking? I can have you, like, lickity…’” she said laughing and snapping her fingers. “He’s awesome.”

Already, however, the rumors were rife about an off-screen romance with Pattinson. Kristen did her best to swat them down. “It’s just totally false… Rob and I are good friends. We went through a lot together, so we feel very close,” she said. “It’s only natural that we’re sort of leaning on each other, because we’re put in the most f*cking psychotic situations,” she said about the publicity from “Twilight.”
