Jon Stewart Takes on Obama Over Economy, Libya, Joe Biden (watch!)

Jon Stewart sat down with President Obama last night (Oct. 18) and came away with one of the most insightful interviews yet about the election campaign. He questioned Obama over the economy, Libya, Joe Biden and the controversial debates.

Stewart may be just a comedian, but “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central continues to provide cogent insights into national and world issues.

Stewart got right to the point and zeroed in on the President’s debate performance. “What happened?” he said. Here’s what happens to me. Some days I’ll go on stage and have an open-face turkey sandwich and a shot of Nyquil. And, halfway through I’ll look up and say ‘Are we on.'”

“Obviously I had an off night. The presentation wasn’t the way it was supposed to be; but the issues haven’t changed. They didn’t change after the first debate and they didn’t change in the second debate. And that is, the stakes in this election are really big.”

Obama didn’t shy away from the central issue of the debate, the economy. “Gov. Romney makes a good presentation. But the fundamentals of what he is calling for are the same fundamentals that he’s calling for are the same policies that got us into this mess that we’ve been fighting against over the last four years.”
