The late Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown and the singer’s adopted son Nick Gordon are engaged to be married. The 19-year-old confirmed the union on her reality show “The Houstons: On Our Own.”
The news comes after Brown denied for months that a sapphire and diamond ring she was seen wearing on her ring finger was, in fact, an engagement ring.
Brown announced the news during a scene on her show to the astonishment of her family. “We’re engaged!” she shouted.
Bobbi Kristina’s relationship with Nick has been a source of concern for the family since Houston died suddenly in February on the eve of the Grammy Awards.
Her mother Cissy Houston has reportedly tried to block Bobbi Kristina’s inheritance of her mother’s estate, estimated at $20 million, until she is older, to keep it out of Gordon’s hands.
In a preview of the show, Houston’s brother Gary Houston scolds Gordon. “No one knew that from a godson you would turn into a boyfriend. No one knew that,” he said.
“The family has me out to be a bad person,” Gordon, 22, says in his own defense.
“They want to see us fail. We won’t,” Bobby interjected.
Nick moved in with the Houstons when he was 12. Although he was never officially adopted, Whitney considered him her godson.
Bobbi Kristina’s reality show will debut Oct. 24 on the Lifetime Network.
“The series will follow Pat and her husband, Gary, Whitney Houston’s brother, as they take on their greatest challenge, supporting and guiding Bobbi Kristina as she faces the world alone, without the one person she relied on the most, her Mother,” according to a press release.
