Jay Leno has another laugh at the expense of NBC.

Jay Leno has a new punching bag… his own network. He ripped NBC again last night, for playing out his future on the Tonight Show in the news media. But he should have plenty of new fodder when he gets wind of how much money New York city is paying to get the show.

Leno’s contract runs out in 2014, and reports flooded the media that the 62-year-old would likely be replaced by “Late Night” host Jimmy Fallon, who is 38.

Apparently Jay doesn’t want to go, and he’s also not too happy about the way his succession is playing out.

“Are you all excited about March Madness? Are you all into March Madness?” he asked about the upcoming college basketball tournament. Or was he?

“People are talking about who’s in, who’s out, who’s gonna be eliminated. And that’s just here at NBC. I have never been in the paper this much. It’s fantastic,” he said, delivering the punch line.

Fallon reportedly wants to stay in New York City, which means NBC would have to relocate. Leno tapes the show in Los Angeles. But cash-strapped New York state is already cooking up tax breaks to convince NBC to make the move, according to The New York Daily News.

The measure would increase the state’s film production tax credit and it’s specifically targeted at a talk or variety program from outside the state. It also must have a yearly budget of more than $30 million and audience of 200 people. In return the state will grant it a 30 percent tax break on the show’s cost through 2019.

Leno, meanwhile, has another home waiting for him if he wants it at Fox. Steve Pruett, who heads a Fox board made up of affiliate stations, told The New York Post, there is wide support among Fox’s 206 affiliates for a late night show at 11 pm and Leno would be perfect for it.
