The Avengers with Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and other top stars could be the most hotly anticipated summer blockbuster in history. Marvel Studios said today (Mar. 3) that nearly 14 million people have viewed the latest trailer.
The trailer has been viewd more than 13.7 million times in the first 24 hours since it was posted on Apple’s iTunes site. You can also see it here, check below.
The film’s superhero lineup includes all of Marvel’s most popular comic book characters. Downey reprises his role as Iron Man, Chris Evans plays Captain America, Mark Ruffalo is the Hulk, Chris Hemsworth plays Thor, Johansson is the Black Widow, Jeremy Renner plays Hawkeye and Jackson plays Nick Fury.
The new, extended trailer shows the team fighting each other as much as the enemy. All is not well on earth. “War has started, and we are hopelessly outgunned,” says Fury.
The opening scene has a familiar action-adventure sequence. People running like mad to save their lives! Destruction is just a step behind them while debris rain from the sky. Nick is given the task of rounding up the team.
Captain America is working out on the heavy bag and sends it flying across the room with his super strength. Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, aka The Black Widow, does her best to recruit The Hulk.
Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, also has an attitude. “I thought I didn’t qualify. Apparently, I’m what is it? Volatile? Self-obsessed and don’t play well with others.” He’s got that right.
In the next scene, he’s fighting it out with Thorand Capt. America on a mountain hilltop. The movie’s special effects are on display and they look top-notch. The Hulk destroys a building to save Iron Man. Cool stuff.
Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures is presenting the film, produced by Kevin Feige and directed by Joss Whedon from a story by Zak Penn and Whedon.
“The Avengers” will be released on May 4, 2012.
