Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks and Willow Shields come together in a new trailer for “The Hunger Games.” The clip provides a fresh look at the dreary capital of Panem and some new action shots of Katniss.
Lionsgate, which just bought Twilight studio Summit Entertainment,is hoping to score just as big with the action-adventure fantasy.
The movie is based on the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, which has been printed in 26 different languages and sold in 38 countries. “Twilight” was also based on a book series by Stephanie Meyer.

The story focuses on Everdeen, a 16-year-old who lives in post-Apocalyptic Panem. It’s a totalitarian state located where the United States once existed. Those in power keep the populace sated with a blood sport known as the Hunger Games.
The Hunger Games are part perverse entertainment for the masses and part government intimidation. In front of a nationally televised audience, a boy and a girl between 12 and 16 are chosen from each of 12 districts.
The are called “Tributes,” and must fight to the death in a large outdoor arena.
The minute-long spot opens with Katniss giving Primerose her good luck charm as they muster to be chosen for the games. Primerose’s name is called, but Katniss volunteers to go in her place.
The spectacle has a game show feel as commentators discuss the games. The clip also provides a look at the capital city in post-apocalyptic North America. The world is part futuristic, part savage. Effie Trinket also gets some screen time.
“The Hunger Games” debuts March 23. Lionsgate is betting big on the film. It’s already announced that “Catching Fire,” the second movie in the trilogy will be released on Nov. 22, 2013.
