Kristen Stewart has been named to the Cannes Film Festival Jury, even though her films have nearly all been critical, if not commercial, flops, showing France’s love affair with the actress continues. The Jury will pick the winner of the prestigious Palme d’Or, the festival’s highest honor.

The 28-year-old actress is best known for her starring the “Twilight” vampire film series. All five films were panned by critics despite their commercial success.

But in France, Stewart is best known for her role in the 2014 drama “Clouds of Sils Maria.” She won a coveted Cesar Award, France’s equivalent of the Oscar, for best supporting actress. She’s the only American actress to win that award.

But she’s never even been nominated for an Oscar or Golden Globe.

The picture, which co-stars Juliette Binoche and Chloë Grace Moretz was favorably reviewed at Cannes. It also earned Cesar nominations for Best Actress (Binoche), Best Original Screenplay (Olivier Assayas), Best Director (Assayas) and best film.

Ava DuVernay, Denis Villeneuve, Chang Chen, Robert Guediguian, Khadja Nin, Lea Seydoux and Andrey Zvyagintsev, round out the jury. It was announced today by festival organizers.

Seven nationalities and five continents are represented on the panel, comprised of more women than men for only the third time in history.

In “Twilight,” Stewart shot to international fame as Bella Swan, an awkward highschooler who falls in love with a local vampire, Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson.

The five-movie series, which began as a one-off indie movie, was wildly popular with young teen fans around the world and grossed more than a $1 billion worldwide. The last film “Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 2” was released in 2012.

Despite its popularity, critics hated the films. The never scored above a 50 rating on rottentomatoes, which tracks reviews.

She’s starred or appeared in 35 films over the course of her career. Of those, 21 have been critically panned. Since Twilight, nine films have been panned and eight have won critical praise, including “Clouds of Sils Maria,” “Still Alice” and “Camp X-Ray.”

Other winners include “Certain Women,” Woody Allen’s “Cafe Society,” “Personal Shopper” and “Lizzy.”

Juxtaposed against those are critical losers like “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk,” sci-fi drama “Equals,” “Anesthesia,” “American Ultra,” and “On the Road.”

Stewart’s age, she just 28, raises some eyebrows. She’s the youngest on the panel. French actress Seydoux is 32 and starred in a Palme D’Or winner “Blue is the Warmest Color.”

still, in the eyes of the French, Stewart is a major star. Then, again, so was Jerry Lewis.
