Bristol Palin and Dakota Meyer are calling it quits on their marriage less than a year after the birth of their second child Atlee Bay Meyer and only two years after they tied the knot, in what appears to have been a shotgun marriage that neither was ever, ahem, wedded to.
Meyer was the one who apparently called it quits, according to divorce papers examined by gossip site TMZ.
Bristol, the daughter of 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, made it to the alter with Meyer in fits and starts. The were engaged to be married but called it off in May 2015.
Meyer, who won the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award, in 2009, learned Bristol was pregnant after the breakup.
The original wedding was slated to be held in Lexington, Kentucky, at Churchill Downs, the home of the Kentucky Derby. But it was called off by Bristol’s mom at the last minute after she discovered that Meyer had been previously married.
Meyer was married in 2008 to high-school sweetheart Cassandra Wain. Although the separated, Meyer was unable to show proof that the marriage had actually ended in a divorce.
Meyer’s lawyer later said the couple had divorced in 2010 and they tied the knot a year later after learning that Palin was pregnant with Meyer’s child.
They tied the knot in may 2017. Daughter Sailor Grace Meyer, was born seven months before the nuptials.
Bristol has her own checkered past.
She gave birth out of wedlock at 17 to son Tripp. She later became engaged to the father, Levi Johnson, but the two eventually split before getting married.
