Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have named their new daughter after a foggy Midwestern city with a murder problem, and that’s only the half of it. The new baby’s name sounds like a ’70s-era Playboy club.
It’s also popular with steakhouses and truck stops
Kim announced the name on her blog this morning, and caused an immediate social media uproar. Ready for it? It’s… “Chicago!”
That’s right the new baby girl will be known as “Chicago West.”
She’ll join siblings North West, who is destined to be a weathercaster, and Saint West, who is probably heading for years of therapy.
Then again, Hollywood celebrities–and we use that term loosely for Kim–are known for picking unusual children’s names. Gwyneth Paltrow named her kid “Apple.”
Chicago West? Are Kim and Kanye naming humans or giving directions?

But judging from the reaction on social media, Kim and Kanye could have done their daughter better.
“Sounds like the name of a new hit medical drama coming this fall,” wrote one Twitter wag.
“Sounds like the name of an apartment building,” wrote another.
Kim made the big reveal in a birth announcement. She also revealed Chicago was born Jan. 15 and weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces.
The name has significance because Chicago is Kanye’s hometown.
Kim let it be known the child would be called “Chi” for short.
“The connection with our baby came instantly and it’s as if she was with us the whole time. We are so excited to finally welcome home our baby girl,” Kim wrote.
Kim also explained why she chose a surrogate for her third child.
“I have always been really honest about my struggles with pregnancy. Preeclampsia and placenta accreta are high-risk conditions, so when I wanted to have a third baby, doctors said that it wasn’t safe for my – or the baby’s – health to carry on my own. People assume it’s better because you don’t have to deal with the physical changes, pain or complications with delivery, but for me it was so hard to not carry my own child, especially after I carried North and Saint.”
Kim and Kayne have been reportedly offered up to $5 million for the publication rights to photos of the child. So far, no deal is known to be forthcoming.
