Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout. But something–or someone–put out the flames to a marriage that many in country music thought was the perfect match. As it turned out they barely made it four years.

You may recall, Blake, 39, was married to his high school sweetheart when he met Lambert in 2005 at the “CMT 100 Greatest Duets Concert.”

Within a year, his marriage to sweetheart Kaynette Gern, whom he wed in 2003, was on the rocks. It ended in divorce in 2006.

Not longer after, Shelton and Lambert, 31, went public as a couple. Rumors had it their affair began while Blake was still married.

They became engaged in 2010 and married in a high profile wedding at the Don Strange Ranch in Boerne, Texas that included a 550 friends and celebrities. They split their time between a sprawling Oklahoma ranch and an expansive Nashville mansion.

The impulsive, hard drinking Shelton said his love for Lambert was “instant.” But the seeds for their split were apparently sown when Blake landed a spot on “The Voice” in the spring of 2011.

The show was just a seasonal replacement, but it proved so popular it was made a regular program in 2012. Blake is one of the original judges along with Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green.

The hit NBC show, now in its eighth season, demanded more and more of his time, and required him to be in Los Angeles for long stretches.

It was one of the biggest factors that caused them to drift apart. Children may also have been an issue. Lambert was reportedly ready to start a family. They released the following joint statement:

This is not the future we envisioned. And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”

The divorce has been in the works for some time. A judge is expected to sign off the on the papers on Monday, according to gossip site TMZ.
Property is being divided according to a prenuptial agreement.

Lambert and Shelton were last seen together in April at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Their four-year wedding anniversary passed in May without celebration. Lambert also did not mention Shelton’s birthday last month on social media.
