Watson, best known for her role in the Harry Potter movie series, gave a moving speech last Septeber at the HeForShe UN campaign in New York. Her Facebook talk will be an extension of that.
“This is very exciting and I hope that you will also be excited because I am going to be conducting a live Q&A in London answering questions about gender equality,” the 22-year-old actress said in a promo video.
“If you’re in London and would like to be there in person, tell me how you are making a personal impact to advance gender equality,” she added. She said she’s looking for both positive stories and also how people have been effected by gender inequality.
Watson’s activism on the issue and her dedication to gender equality suggest that she plans to pursue a role in international politics at some point in her career.
During her UN speech, she said too many women are choosing “not to identify as feminists,” a label she has embraced in her own life.
“I am among the ranks of women whose expressions are seen as too strong, too aggressive, isolating and anti-men, unattractive, even. Why has the word become such an uncomfortable one?”
She added:
“I am from Britain and I think it is right that I am paid the same as my male counterparts. I think it is right that I should be able to make decisions about my own body…I think it is right that women be involved on my behalf in the policies and the decisions that affect my life. I think it is right that socially, I am afforded the same respect as men.”
