Paul McCartney takes a stroll with Newman the robot in a human museum in his new ‘Appreciate’ video.

Paul McCartney veers into the surreal in his new “Appreciate” video. He dances with a robot in a futuristic museum where people are the main exhibits. The robot’s name is “Newman,” the museum’s night watchman.

And, why not a robot?

McCartney has collaborated with a slew of celebrities including Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Kate Moss, Jude Law, Tom Ford, Sean Penn and Natalie Portman, his label notes.

In the video, Newman is making the rounds as usual when something catches his attention in a sound studio exhibit.

The robot is shocked to see that Sir Paul has come to life. He’s sitting on a piano stool with his classic Hofner bass guitar.

Newman reaches through the force field and pulls Paul out of the exibit. Other exibits also start coming to life as Paul and his new friend walk through the museum.

“I woke up one morning with an image in my head of me standing with a large robot,” McCartney said in a statement.

“I thought it might be something that could be used for the cover of my album, but instead the idea turned out to be for my music video for ‘Appreciate.'”

Newman was developed and animated by the same crew that created the scenes in the World War I movie “War Horse.”

The video was directed by Andre Chocron and filmed in London. Newman was designed by Mervyn Millar and Ed Dimbleby for Significant Object Ltd.

“Appreciate” is a single from Paul’s latest studio album New, released last year.
