McGovern, 52, is using her downtime from the show to tour with her rock band Sadie and the Hotheads.
She performed with her band today (Feb. 16) at the Hammersmith Apollo in London in support of ’80s UK supergroup Mike + the Mechanics.
The Mechanics are in the midst of a 23-date tour to mark the 25 Anniversary of the band’s hit single and album, both titled “The Living Years.” Both hit No. 1 on the US charts.
McGovern began singing as Sadie in 2008 in a regular gig at The Castle pub in London. The band also has one album to its credit.
McGovern says Sadie is definitely her alter-ego.
“By creating Sadie I could become this other character who was confident enough to sing,” she said in a magazine interview. “Also, Sadie is that thing inside you that’s unique to you. It’s not about pleasing anybody else. It’s your true inner voice.”
The band has played a succession of venues on the latest leg of the tour. Check out the videos below, a cover version of “Staying Alive” and “All My Sins.”
